Just because you are on a diet does not mean that you should forget your favourite foods or settle for bland recipes. In fact, healthy cooking opens up an avenue to trying out new recipes and exploring different foods. There are numerous tips and tricks to ensure that your meals remain delicious and healthy.

1. Smart shopping

Shopping for healthy food is essential for a healthy lifestyle. This does not necessarily mean that you should go beyond your budget. When doing your grocery shopping, limit processed foods such as juice, pastries, cold meats, fast foods, and chips because most of them contain unhealthy fats, sugars and preservatives. Instead opt for, whole grains, flour, low-fat versions of foods, lean meat cuts, and fresh fruits and vegetables. This allows you to make healthy meals almost every time you are in the kitchen.

2. Low-fat cooking

While there are healthy fats, it is always best to minimize your fatty foods consumption. This can be done by using the smallest amount of oil possible. Instead of pouring oil into your pan, try using cooking spray, or applying the cooking oil using a pastry brush. You might also want to invest in an air fryer or opt for baking instead of frying some foods (chicken, fish, fries, etc.).

3. Retaining the nutrients

The cooking process makes food more enjoyable, but sometimes we lose the nutrients by cooking for too long. To minimize the nutrient loses, include more stir fry recipes in your diet, try to scrub your vegetables instead of peeling them, and use the least amount of cooking time possible.
